FINAL REFLECTION

Elearning with the Ilearn Model was previously introduced to my school through inservicing. I personally have discovered that the purpose of this Model is to provide a framework for future teaching and learning opportunities.

I have learnt that it is not just about technology but it is about engaging and challenging learners by equipping them with necessary skills and resources. This will, in turn, promote effective communicators, creators and collaborators in the local community as well as internationally.

Elearning engages students and teachers through electronic learning which develops their educational skills. This embraces computers and technology whereby networks are established and people are able to share their knowledge.

By implementing this model, students will become reflective and responsible learners.  The teacher acts as a facilitator in this process. The key emphasis is on students being able to optimise their learning when they are engaged and challenged.  Once the students have effectively demonstrated these skills, they are able to optimally utilise the web 2.0 tools in order to share their learnings and achievements with each other and the wider community.

I would like to thank CEO for providing this invaluable opportunity to further my professional development in the areas of Elearning and Web 2.0 tools. I feel this has encouraged me to think out of the square and broaden my teaching experiences.

I am looking forward to implementing Web 2.0 tools in the classroom and I believe that my students will greatly benefit as a result.  I feel that children need these skills in order to prepare them for their future. For instance, they will be able to share and collaborate with their peers and teachers confidently and they will become responsible and motivated learners.

MODULE 10

I thought Wiki was a great website that allows children to work together to co-ordinate and organise their ideas on a particular issue without the use of e-mails. It is a way of sharing the workload whereby everyone has an input. Wiki allows for good organisation of information. Students simply use the EDIT SAVE buttons to change what appears on their webpage.

As a Year 3 teacher I believe Wiki's could be used in any of the key learning areas at school. Tasks can also be completed at home. Wiki allows for the children to collaborate and expand their knowledge through shared learning. I'm looking forward to introducing Wiki in the classroom. It seems a simple and enjoyable way to enhance the children's learning through sharing and working together as a team to achieve the desired outcome.

Teachers would benefit from using Ning when sharing their ideas and opinions about different teaching and learning strategies. It is also an excellent means of introducing and sharing resources with other teachers across the teaching profession.

I personally believe that i would utilise the web 2.0 tools to communicate and share with others, my innovative ideas and also to learn from others. As a result, this would benefit my teaching performance.

Web 2 tools also allow you to stay in touch with other colleagues and  the tools provide a means for better and efficient communication, not only within my school, but across the wider community.

In turn, through my own implementation of the various web 2 tools within  the classroom, my students will immensely benefit.

For example, through my modelling and continual use of such tools, the students will be able to explore and use them to promote academic and social achievements.

Module 9

I found Scootle extremely beneficial when searching and making use of digital curriculum resources. Children at school would be able to search and view learning paths to assist in achieving their learning goals. This is achieved through different auditory and visual content.

The content can be organised in a user-friendly and practical way, for all students and will support their learning in all the key learning areas.

Scootle can be used as a social network tool:

1. Teachers can share learning pasths which contain digital curriculum resources across the KLA's with their work colleagues. thius will promote efficiency in programming.

2. Students can access the learning paths to enable more effective and quality learning experiences. the content within the learning paths may be saved and organised to support students in their learning.

3. Learning paths may also be emailed to colleagues or students and followed on Twitter.

The Second Life Tool is an extremely beneficial tool for students  learning a topic/subject taught in class as it provides a visual and audio representation of the content being explored. This is a key learning tool, especially for ESL learners.

Linkedin is an effective website as it enables work colleagues across countries and professions to communicate and stay connected.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Module as it covered many tools which can be utilised within my classroom environment.

Module 8

Google reader is  great! I love the way it lets you subscribe to websites so that the new content comes to you when it is posted.
By being able to share this with friends it makes it easier to inform others about the things you found interesting thereby opening up the ability to communicate with others about so many different issues and gaining more information you otherwise would not have been aware of.

It makes communication and learning so much easier and quicker to access. This could be easily used in the classroom with my students when integrating units of work across the curriculum and children can communicate with each other across the grade to broaden their learning using interesting sites found in the other classes.

I also found it easy to understand and use. I believe the students would have no problems making use of it.RSS truly saves you time by not needing to visit each site individually!!!

Module 7

This is a very efficient tool to use when bookmarking useful sites that may be referred to, on an ongoing basis.

When students are researching a particular topic, they will be able to bookmark web sites or pages for later use. They will also be able to share these with their fellow students and teachers.

I found this Module user friendly and practical, especially, when you need to access the webpage on a regular basis to teach concepts/topic.

Module 6

I really enjoyed this module. The students would love to upload their photos and videos using the flickr program tool.

These could be edited and then shared across the school community.

This could be used to share excursion experiences in school newsletters.

Great tool!!!

Module 5

Bubbl.us is a useful tool for the students to record and organise their ideas through the use of mindmapping.

This could be used by both teacher and students in any of the KLAs. For teachers, they could share programming ideas with other members. This tool is very beneficial for students to plan their writing ideas on a specific text type.

It is also beneficial for the ESL learner. It is a visual representation of their ideas and thoughts, making it easier for them to comprehend the task at hand.

MODULE 4

Podcasts are very beneficial in the classroom as they enable the students to download, listen to and use a variety of audio files in a variety of KLA's across the curriculum.

Vodcasts give a more visual experience, for example, students are able to make their own video which then can be viewed within the classroom/school environment, by other members, using a program such as Youtube.

MODULE 3

I found google docs very interesting. Google docs enables you to share documents, presentations, spreadsheets and so on with other members efficiently. It makes doc attachments in e-mails unnecessary. By using google docs, documents can be more easily shared without the "clutter." It makes managing articles more time saving and efficient. When creating documents they can be shared with other teachers. This could be beneficial when programming whereby teachers wouldn't have to be in the same room. Documents can be accessed and worked on from anywhere, anytime of the day or night. Google docs definitely makes sharing documents simple.

Children would be able to benefit from using google docs whether they are at school or home.Children can access their documents at home and at school anytime and can work together with their peers on particular assignments. The writing process continues to be developed. Children can brainstorm, draft, revise, edit and publish their documents.

By sharing their ideas and opinions the workload is spread and children develop their learning through interactive and collaborative sharing. What a student can produce individually greatly differs and improves  from what can be produced by  sharing as a group. Learning is opened up and children gain different perspectives on their work. By publishing their work students gain greater satisfaction from the idea of a whole audience who is reading and appreciating their efforts as compared to just having the class teacher privy to their work. The wider audience raises expectations and motivates the students to do better, to be creative, unique and to achieve the best possible outcome. Google docs has many educational benefits once the students grasp the basic skills needed to create and develop  their documents.
